I Don’t Generally Do Reviews

This should probably be article length. Condensed: packaging is like nothing I’ve ever seen in 65 rotations around the planet. The entire unit is HEAVY. Way heavy. Like, maybe 1/2 the weight of the saw heavy. Beautifully constructed. I adapted it to my INCA 2200 12 inch saw. It picks up that last 1% the saw leaves. Should be noted that it is paired to a 5 horse Pentz designed Clear-Vue dust collector. Gorgeous. Expensive. Does what it claims to do. Buy quality once - regret nothing.

Shark S-12S

Overall this is a high quality blade guard that also helps collect dust from the top of the saw blade. Be warned however, this is a large and heavy unit, very sturdy once in place. Adjustments are very easy to make to the well-dampened blade guard, moving up and down easily! I also like the changeable plastic side inserts, going from the straight to the bubble style depending on work type. Overall, I would purchase again, but maybe Harvey can design a less heavy or bulky guard, while still utilizing their high quality, durable build quality standards? I like using it with the Harvey Big Eye fence in the low position which creates more room to work around the large guard!

Safety first

Very happy to have this system because the guard is at the ready all the time it will be always be used. I agree that the instructions could be clearer the install is not as simple as the video shows
The tolerances of the horizontal frame into the cast steel bracket is to tight it took a lot of finagling and frustration to get it installed other than that a great system

The system is well made. The installation and set-up instructions could be improved. Overall very satisfied with this purchase. I do wood working as a hobby, not a professional woodworker.

Great for dust collection and safety

The SHARK S-12S is a sturdy and impressive tool that effectively reduces dust accumulation. Its swiveling feature and movable guard unit make it user-friendly, although the frame and wheel may limit visibility under the dust shroud. However, this is not a deal-breaker, as you can adjust to viewing from the side of the transparent shield. Speaking of the shield, it has saved me during one of my projects when a kickback occurred while cutting maple. The Shark S-12S took the brunt of it, and I wasn't injured. Upon close inspection, there was no noticeable damage to the Shark S-12S from the kickback.

I have an older 2hp dust collector that efficiently handles the dust produced by my table saw. However, I hope to upgrade to the Harvey GYRO AIR G-700 someday to complement the Shark S-12S system.

I also own a Harvey Alpha Table Saw equipped with a 32" INCRA TS-LS Rip Fence System. To mount the Shark S-12S onto the fence, I had to devise a secure and functional mounting solution that did not require drilling into the Incra. Fortunately, I found an alternative solution that did not compromise the integrity of the Incra.

Despite its limitations, the Shark S-12S is an excellent investment that outperforms the original dust guard. It reduces the amount of dust in the air and protects against kickbacks, making it a worthwhile purchase.

Works Great with Minor Issues

First and foremost, dust extraction works great when it can be used, I love the addition but it has some issues.

The overhead guard was designed before 52" rails became available, which creates some compatibility challenges. It can be attached to 52" rails after tapping holes, but there are minor inconveniences, especially if you have the router table addition. The arm support is located at the end of the rail, effectively creating a barrier to the right of the router table. While I plan to add the compass to the left-hand side of the saw to avoid moving the router table, this setup requires additional considerations.

Another issue arises from its original design. The Big Eye rip fence cannot effectively use the overhead guard for cuts less than an inch in width because the guard doesn’t extend far enough. However, for larger cuts, it works wonderfully, significantly reducing dust. I plan to remount the guard arm onto an outfeed table in the future to address these limitations and free up the rails.

Lastly, when paired with the new Spider Mobile Base, the arm guard's leg support is raised higher off the ground than the bolt adjustment allows. This necessitates using spare wood to create a makeshift chock for proper support.

In summary, the overhead arm guard functions well for its primary purpose on larger cuts but requires modifications to accommodate 52" rails and certain setups. Despite these challenges, it significantly improves dust collection and safety during operation.
